Amplification regulation of optical fibre amplifier in wavelength multiplex system

The method involves determining the average reception power of the coded signal transmitted in the signalling channel of the wavelength multiplex system. The signal is coded with respect to a level which is constant over the response time of the amplifier. The power is held at a predetermined value by appropriate feedback of the pump laser current. The signalling channel input of the multiplexer receives, via an electro-optical converter, a signal of constant average power. In a network node after the fibre amplifier, the signal channel output is fed via an opto-electrical converter, to a monitor input of a regulator circuit. The latter has a comparator input actuated by a predetermined comparison value. The cycle of the regulator is tuned to the response time of the fibre amplifier. The regulator regulates the pump laser current of the fibre amplifier.
