A support system for automation of story structure preparation prepares automatically a story structure basically in the sequence of a core story, a story and a plot on the basis of fragmentary events by a user or a partial tree and the values of story parameters. The story structure is uniformly constituted by a tree system, and the system comprises story parameters as groups of fragmentary procedures for expanding/modifying this tree, a knowledge base storing knowledge about the concepts and event combination to which reference is made by the system, a story strategy comprising groups fragmentary rules for controlling the operation of the groups of story techniques and a story preparation management mechanism for managing all these processes. Different stories can be flexibly prepared from the same input event or partial tree in accordance with the kind of the story parameters inputted by the user, and this capability is brought forth because all of the principal mechanisms for the preparation of the story structure such as the story technique, the story strategy and the knowledge base comprise the aggregate of the fragmentary information, and because the system accomplishes their versatile combinations by the consistent method described above.
