The appts. to gather sliver material from a carding machine has a mechanism (12) powered by the card take-off rollers (5) to operate the take-off rollers (6) after the false twister (11), so that both sets of rollers rotate with the same surface speed. A unit (13) can vary the speed of the second rollers (6) and register the tension of the sliver after the false twister (11) through the force exerted by the rollers (6).
