The windscreen wiper driving device has a sensor to evaluate the wetting condition of the windscreen, an evaluation unit to receive the sensor signal and a control unit receiving a signal from the evaluation unit so it can drive the wipers in a particular wipe mode if the difference between the sensor signal and a reference value exceeds a threshold. The evaluation unit has a detector stage where it is established if the sensor signal lies within or outside a normal range. This is recognised if amplification of the signal still does not bring it within the normal range.
