PURPOSE: To provide a detection method for thermoelectron emission time of a fluorescent lamp by which simple, precise, and dynamic measurement can be conducted by adopting a time that a predetermined secondary differential formula and the like of a lamp voltage measured after a current is allowed to flow in an electrode filament takes the maximum value as the thermoelectron emission time. CONSTITUTION: A lamp voltage VL after the start of a current flow in the electrode filament of a fluorescent lamp is measured and is computer-processed, and the time for which the second derivative expression with respect to time shown in formula I, or the numerator in formula II of the right-hand side of the second derivative expression takes a maximum value is adopted as the thermoelectron emission time. Then, various setting and the like are not required, and it becomes possible to obtain a detecting method for the thermoelectron emission time of a fluorescent lamp by which simple, precise, and dynamic measurement can be conducted without the uncertainty of judgement.
