PURPOSE: To accurately perform operation on fuel consumption of an engine by detecting injection pressure of an injection nozzle, calculating a change characteristic of the injection pressure on the basis of its detecting signal, and performing operation on a fuel injection quantity on the basis of engine speed and the change characteristic of the injection pressure. CONSTITUTION: In operation control processing of fuel consumption by a controller 16, in the case where an engine is started, when injection pressure of an injection nozzle detected by a pressure sensor 12 reaches reference pressure, time when a change characteristicΔP of injection pressure becomes (ΔP<1) is calculated as injection start time. Next, when the injection pressure reaches a maximum pressure point, time whenΔP becomes, for example, (ΔP>0.9) is calculated as injection finish time. Fuel injection time is calculated from the injection start time and the injection finish time, and an injection quantity is calculated from its value and engine speed on the basis of a signal of a crank angle sensor 13, and fuel consumption is calculated from this injection quantity and a traveling distance selected on the basis of output of a wheel speed sensor 14.
