PURPOSE: To obtain an image forming material with which images of an ultra high contrast and high resolution are obtainable by a simple drying method by providing the surface of a base with a specific image forming layer. CONSTITUTION: This image forming material 3 having an arom. dialdehyde deriv., a cobalt complex compd. contg. at least either of ammonia and primary amine group as a ligand, a photoreducing agent and a silver ion-contg. compd having substantially no photosensitivity on a base 2 is formed. The image forming material is so formed that the product (T×t) of a heating temp. and heat treatment attains the relation 5<=(T×t)<=1200 when the heating temp. of the heat treatment is defined as T deg.C and the heat treatment time as (t) second at the time of the image formation. Namely, the silver ion-contg. compd. having substantially no photosensitivity is used in combination with the image forming material 3 forming images by using the cobalt complex, by which the image formation of the ultra high contrast and high resolution is attained and the image forming material 3 suitable for practicable use even in the field of graphic arts is provided.
