<p>The tool requires placement of the sample in a rectangular core area (1) centrally positioned between two equal-sized outer sections (2, 3), also holding the material under examination, which are trapezoidal in plan but also rectangular in section. The core section is held in place by pressure from screw systems at both sides (4). The resistance to movement of natural or man-made, organic or inorganic aggregates rests on the reciprocal molecular attraction of the grains and capillary or fixed binder substances. Controlled traction on a moving plate system (9,10) creates changes in the physico-chemical condition of the aggregate in the core section homogeneously and thus tests its cohesive resistance.</p> |
