PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To leave no stripe pattern on a coating film after baking to obtain a coated metal plate with a smooth surface of the coating film and excellent in appearance by keeping a coating material after coating in prescribed temperature range and time with respect to a yield point at which viscosity is minimized in correlation between temperature and viscosity of the coating material before starting the drying and baking it. SOLUTION: A coating material in a coating material pan 1 is picked up by a pitch up roll 2, and is transferred to an applicator roll 3. To a metal plate such as a copper belt M continuously conveyed while guided by a backup roll 4, the coating material is applied by the applicator roll 3. The coating material is applied at a temperature within±10 deg.C of a yield point at which viscosity is minimized in correlation between temperature and viscosity of the coating material, and after elapsed >=8.0sec from the point of time of coating, drying and baking is started. In this way, without causing the lowering of productivity due to the lowering of line velocity and without leaving stripe patterns on a coating film after baking, a coated metal plate with a smooth surface of the coating film and excellent in appearance is obtained.
