SUPERCONDUCTING CONDUCTOR FOR ALTERNATING CURRENT, ITS MANUFACTURE AND ITS USE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting conductor for alternating current which has a large current capacity and capable of suppressing alternating current loss to a low level and also having a high quench resistance. SOLUTION: A superconducting conductor for alternating current is formed by twisting, together with a non-superconducting conductor 1, a plurality of composite multicore superconducting wires 2 having a structure in which a multiplicity of superconducting metal filaments are embedded in a normal conduction matrix composed of Cu or a Cu alloy. The non-superconducting conductor 1 is, wholly or partly, composed of a solid wire made of a fiber reinforced plastics(FRP) or a normal conduction wire covered by an insulating layer. The superconducting conductor has a structure of a primary strand or a secondary or higher-order strand. The central wire of the strand comprizes a normal conduction wire covered by an FRP or an insulating layer.
