PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably obtain the subject resin having relatively high molecular weight, low in residual monomer amount and useful as a water tank, etc., for aquarium by initiating polymerization of a monomer in the presence of a specific amount of oxygen. SOLUTION: When carrying out cast polymerization of (A) a methacrylic monomer (e.g. methyl methacrylate) in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator (e.g.tert-butylperoxy-2-ethylhexanoate) in an amount of 1×10<-6> to 1×10<-3> mol/monomer mol, preferably 1×10<-6> to 1×10<-4> mol/monomer mol, the polymerization is initiated in the presence of 1×10<-5> to 2×10<-4> mol/$1 oxygen in the component A. Furthermore, the polymerization is preferably carried out at 30-130 deg.C for one to several ten hr using a heat source such as hot air.
