The plug (3) has a long shaft for insertion through the wall panel, and an extension (104) on its front, which may end in a point (9). The plug is extended by at least 5 mm so that inadequate length of the boring for the plug can be detected immediately on insertion. The boring can thus be deepened if necessary to ensure the full insertion of the plug. This enables the spreading arms to be spread correctly to provide the optimum load-bearing capacity for the screw.
