Front seat protection for rear collision

The safety net (6) is rapidly deployed behind the rear seats from the roof line down to at least half the height of the seat backs. It prevents the seat backs being displaced rearwards by a rear impact and prevents items carried in the rear being thrown forwards. The net is deployed by a servo drive activated by a collision sensor (10). The collision sensor is linked to the vehicle protection system which control the air bags and other safety features. The net is normally stretched between horizontal guides under th roof and is pulled down guides on the inside of the door pillars (5). A return spring pulls the net back after the impact.
