The invention concerns a valve, in particular a non-return valve (38) for a reciprocating pump (10) used as the fluid-return pump in a vehicle brake system. In order to avoid the valve obturator element (42) moving in uncontrolled fashion in the valve chamber (40) when the valve is open with fluid passing through it, the invention proposes that the valve has two approximately radial outlet channels (52) which open next to each other in the valve chamber (40) close to the level of the valve seat (46). As the flow rate through the outlet channels (52) is high, an underpressure is produced in the valve chamber (40) near the opening of the outlet channels and the obturation element (42) is sucked into the centre between the outlet channels (52) where it rests against the valve-chamber wall (54). The flow of fluid through the valve (38) becomes uniform, thus giving a higher flow rate and less noise.
