The element has a double wire shell made out of two parallel bent wires whose free ends are joined with a screw to a lock which is transverse to the peripheral or tensioning direction. In the tensioned state of the shell, the bent wire end corresponding to the adjusted diameter lies between the parallel wires and the screw is supported against the bent end. The shell has a device to equalise the diameter, comprising a travelling counter-support on the screw which is designed as a support point for the lock between the parallel wires and has a thread for the screw.
