Method for reducing squeaking noises of rail travelling vehicles e.g. trains

The method involves covering the surface of the rails with a material which reduces friction. The rail upper surface is heated by a laser treatment and after the laser heat treatment the friction reducing material is applied to the rail surface. The material may be applied to the rail through using hot air or a thin flame defusion device. The material is in the form of long longitudinally applied strips. The material may be comprised of bronze or an alloy of aluminium and copper e.g. aluminium-bronze.
