PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin cosmetic free from a sticky feeling in use, high in moisture retention effect, capable of maintaining the effect for many hours, by combining a water-soluble polyhydric alcohol excellent in water retention and water vapor absorption with a specific compound. SOLUTION: This skin cosmetic comprises at least one or more ofα,αtrehalose-6,6' di-fatty acid esters and at least one or more of water-soluble polyhydric alcohols. Theα,α-trehalose-6,6' di-fatty acid ester is mixed with water and the polyhydric alcohol to form a liquid crystal. The liquid crystal has characteristics of highly associating and configurating an amphiphatic substance and retaining a large amount of water in the structure. For example, glycerol, diglycerol, propylene glycol, etc., may be cited as the water-soluble polyhydric alcohol. The amount of theα,α-trehalose-6,6' di-fatty acid ester mixed is about 0.0001-20wt.% based on the skin cosmetic. The blending ratio of the ester to the alcohol is approximately 1:1,000 to 1:1.
