PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a base fabric for an ink ribbon, having a prescribed woven density ratio and a prescribed woven crimp rate, excellent in the durability of a joined part and a base fabric part, excellent in ink absorbability, print visibility and ink life, easy in the finishing set, and useful for computers, etc. SOLUTION: This base fabric has the ratio of the woven density of wefts constituting fibers in the width direction to the woven density of warps constituting fibers in the longitudinal direction in a value of 0.7-1.1, and has the woven crimp rate of the wefts constituting the fibers in the width direction in a value of 1.5-7%. The base fabric is preferably constituted from polyamide fibers having a relative viscosityηr of 2.5-3.3 in sulfuric acid.
