The method of setting and cancelling an operation mode in a video phone comprises a first step of judging whether a key secure device is turned on; a second step of operating a normal mode if the key secure device is not turned on; a third step of judging whether a door opening and closing device is locked if the key secure device is turned on; a fourth step of setting a security and absent mode if the door opening and closing device is locked; a fifth step of generating vocal and visual signal to acknowledge the setting of the security and absent mode; a sixth step of cancelling the security and absent mode if the door opening and closing device is not locked; and a seventh step of generating vocal and visual signal to acknowledge the cancelling of the security and absent mode.
