The plug connector has a first part (21) with an insulating housing (10) receiving a number of contacts fitted to the ends of respective electrical leads and a second part with a counter-housing containing counter contacts for a second set of electrical leads. The insulating housing of the first part of the connector is fitted with a fixing ring (20) having spring retaining hooks (25) for securing the connector in an opening in a mounting panel in which the connector is fitted via a mounting cap (30) releasably secured to the housing on the opposite side to the fixing ring.
