The invention concerns a cap intended to close off the mouths of containers, in particular containers for cleaning agents, cosmetics and similar products. The cap consists of a main body which is designed to be placed over the mouth of the container to form a fluidtight seal and which has at least one product-metering opening, plus a top plate attached to the main body so that it can pivot, thus allowing the opening to be sealed off or opened, as required. In order to prevent the cap from being opened unintentially, the invention proposes that a locking device be fitted with which the top plate (4) can be securely held in the closed position. The wall of the main body (2) of the cap preferably has two slits (13, 14) running essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cap, forming between them a locking lever (11) which is connected to the main body (2) of the cap by bridges of material (12).
