The natural direction of the earth's magnetic field may be altered in order to promote natural sleep. Magnets (2) or other optionally adjustable elements are arranged on and/or around a bed and/or bed frame (5) to impart a generally north-south direction to the ambient magnetic field, whereby natural sleep may be promoted without resorting to special treatment.
