Method for operating multiple hydraulic actuators

The method involves a pair of bidirectional pumps which are arranged in parallel and drive the actuators by means of a controlling valve system in which the outputs are directed to drive each actuator as required. A system of hydraulic actuators (51) consisting of double-acting cylinders (1.1,1.2,1.3) and hydraulic motor (1.4), operating individually or in a sequence in a machine, is driven by a pump unit (53) supplied with hydraulic fluid from a reservoir (25). The pump unit comprises two pumps (15,15') driven by electric motors (19,19') controlled by a unit (57) which also connects to sensors (39) on each actuator. A valve unit (59) directs the outputs from the pumps (63) to the selected actuator determined by the control unit (57).
