The method for extracting the contour of an object (1) having two lateral edges (10,11) from a digital photographic image uses an automatic process of active contour propagation and includes the following stages. An input (30), a first (CS1) and a second (CS2) initial contour situated in proximity to one or the other edges of the object in the image. The first initial contour (32) is propagated with the aid of the active contour propagation process and the second initial contour (33) with the aid of a second active contour propagation process, using for each process: a) an energy model including a term (Ecoupl) relative the elastic coupling forces (F, T) between the points matched with the first and second initial contours; and b) a prolongation direction (Dp) of the defined active contour as being an average direction with respect to two prolongation directions (D1,D2) respectively determined for the first and second active contours. |
