Goods throughput system for automatic processing of goods in self-service shop

The system has a conveyor device (10 - 18) with a loading area (2) and a collection area (3). A register (22) records goods details. A data store contains goods specific information. A calculating and dynamic memory device stores part of the goods information. A comparing device compares the information with information received through the register. The register (22) comprises a video camera (26) which is linked to an image processing device and supplies images from the viewer to the image processor. If the data record from the goods matches a goods record from the data store, a known signal is generated, if not an unknown signal. A diverting device (16) routes unknown goods to an interim store (32) until a known signal is received. Known goods are routed on to the collection point.
