PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new derivative having a strong antibacterial activity, and highly useful as an antibacterial agent, etc., by reaching sporeamicin produced by an actinomyces with a carboxylic acid in the presence of a hydrogenated dialkylaluminum. SOLUTION: This new 10-hydroxymethyl-substituted 14-membered ring macrolide derivative (salt) is represented by formula I (R is H, a 1-10C) alkyl, a lower alkoxy-lower alkyl, cyclopropyl), has a strong antibacterial activity and is extremely useful as an antibacterial agent, etc. The compound is obtained by reacting sporeamicin of formula II produced by an actinomyces: Saccharopolyspora SP-L 53-18A, with a carboxylic acid of the formula: RCOOH or its salt in the presence of a dialkylaluminum hydride. |
