The tape measuring unit is provided with an electric motor for moving the measuring tape in and out of a housing (1) provided with a handle (2), in which the batteries (4) are accommodated. The housing is fitted with a forward-stop-reverse switch. The winding mechanism is arranged in the housing. The measuring system can include an analogue measuring tape, or digital tape read electronically. The tape measure is equipped with a handle and can be operated using one hand.
