The appts. (2) has a developer device (14) which forms a developed image by transfer of a developer (20) to a latent electrostatic image on a photosensitive drum (10). A recycling mechanism recycles the developer (20) by returning it to the developer (14) using a cleaner (18). The drum (10) is cleaned after a paper sheet has passed over it so that the image is transferred. An additional contact element (14i) is used with the reclaimed toner or developer (20) before it is returned to the developer device (14) to remove impurities by adsorption. The adsorption is carried out using a static voltage of the correct polarity which is chosen according to the voltage and polarity used during development and in the developer (14). 1 and T2 are calculated for the next cycle.
