Circuit boards are passed on belts through a coating and drying system. The system has rollers 2 with an elastomer coating 4 that collects lacquer 3 and transfers it to the surface of the boards. A coating free area is formed with the aid of a suitable foil 6, eg polyamide or metal or fabric strip, that is held against the roller and inhibits lacquer collection. The coated boards are passed through fixing 8 and drying 11 stages.
