PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute bi-directional routing check on the transmission side of a cell for monitoring inside a device in the case of monitoring a path in the device by transmitting the cell for monitoring the inside of the device every fixed time within the device in an ATM(asynchronous transferring mode) with a routing function. SOLUTION: The transmission side 1 of the cell for monitoring inside the device transmits a port number P and VPI number VP being a transmission destination address 5 to a port number P' and VPI number (transmission destination address information) VP' being a transmission destination routing data of a transmission side routing table by adding to a cell (a) for monitoring inside the device. The reception side 2 of the cell for monitoring inside of the device sends back a cell (b) for monitoring inside the device obtained by adding the port number P' and the VPI number VP on the receiving side to the port number P and the VPI number VP added to the sent up cell (a). Thereby bi- directional routing check is enabled on the insertion side of a path monitoring cell within the device.
