Product identification label and anti theft alarm system

The label is produces with a number of dipole elements 10 that have ring shaped bridging elements 13 and are used to activate an alarm if passed through a magnetic field. The rings have to be broken in order to deactivate the device. The label also has a layer 2 which has bar codes 3,4 for product identification and other code 5-7 for positioning signals for use by the hand held scanner. The scanner has a built in processor based controller, a magnetic stage for ring deactivation and an optical scanner for the bar code.
