Variable area nozzle for jet engine

The nozzle consists of outer (6) and inner rings of shutters, the inner shutters being in two groups which lie in line and are articulated at their joints. Each ring of shutters has one group of controlled and another of follower shutters, with the forward controlled shutters connected to a control ring (12) which is moved axially by a series of control units (14). The control ring (12) is connected to the forward controlled shutters (8) by levers (17) which are pivoted at one end to the control units (14), and is connected to the rear controlled shutters (10) by servo-levers (20). The controlled shutters (6) of the outer ring are connected to the servo levers by arms (24) and are pivoted to a fixed structure joined to the fixed part of the engine. The control ring (12) is polygonal in shape, with the main and servo-lever pivots connected to its corners.
