Leak monitor for pipeline for gas or liquid

The leak monitoring strip has a conductor (21) made of a material which changes its conductivity when exposed to the particular fluid from inside the pipeline. The conductor is applied to the back of a self adhesive strip (22), which is stuck to the pipe and covered by a porous layer (23), to soak up any leaks. The whole fitting is covered by a sealing layer. An electric monitoring circuit detects any changes in conductivity, and signals an alarm. At least two conducting strips are used in parallel. A control signal is passed up one strip, and returns down the other strip. If a leak is indicated, a second signal is sent up the return strip. A detector above ground easily finds the spot where the signals terminate.
