A pressure sensitive self adhesive strip (I) for durable, irreversible adhesion comprises a base layer (II) formed of a rubber, containing double bonds in the main chain and is crosslinked such that the rubber exhibits rubber-elastic behaviour, coated both sides with an acrylate based pressure sensitive adhesive material (III). Preferably the pressure sensitive adhesive material (III) is a copolymer of 60-70 wt.% n-butylacrylate, 20-40 wt.% 2-ethylhexylacrylate and 0-8 wt.% acrylic acid. (II) is a chemically or physically crosslinked natural rubber, an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber, and/or a random styrene-butadiene rubber.
