The compact video monitoring camera has a charge coupled device (CCD) module, in a housing that has a universal joint arrangement that fits onto a mains electricity supply plug. The mains unit 6 is coupled to a transformer that supplies a charging circuit coupled to rechargeable batteries 7. The image is sensed by the CCD camera module 8 that transfers data to the processing circuitry 9 and this provides a video output for the display. The output is provided by a twisted cable or by a wireless system with amplitude modulation or frequency modulation.
