The telephone receives an incoming call by radio to a data transmission device (13) which signals to a switch unit (9), activating a ringer and a processor (14). A constant +3 V DC or square-wave output (15,16) is supplied to the contacts (10) of the sensors (7,8). When the level of voltage on their other contacts is evaluated as equal, the ringing is stopped and the speech link is set up conventionally. If the user lets go of both grip areas (6,6') a waiting period is started within which the instrument can be picked up again without loss of the link.
