The mobile telephone includes an infrared transmitter (2) which is controllable by the operating keys (4). Preferably, a control circuit converts key operations into information which is sent by the infrared transmitter. The control circuit includes a microprocessor which also controls telephone functions. Additionally, the mobile telephone includes an infrared receiver which converts received signals to electrical signal. The converted signals are supplied to the microprocessor for evaluation.
