PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remarkably improve total picture quality and also to reduce the power required for sustenance pulses by adding a compensation pulse for reducing the turbidity of a display picture caused by a write pulse at the vicinity of the write pulse to eliminate or reduce the turbidity of the picture caused in a direction perpendicular to a screen. SOLUTION: The driving circuit of this plasma display is constituted so that a compensation pulse CP is added in the vicinity of a write pulse WP and in a direction different from the polarity of the pulse WP right after the pulse WP. Now, when the compensation pulse CP is not present, since a light emission output becomes PW to be increased and causes a turbidity. When the compensation pulse CP is present, and PW-PK=PK-PC, t2 -t1 =t3 -t2 =T are made to be satisfied in the circuit, the increased amount of a light quantity by the write pulse WP and the decreased amount of a light quantity by the compensation pulse CP cancel each other to become a light emission output PK on average. Since the value of a time T is the order of 100μs at the greatest, the light emission output PK being the value completely averaged by the response of visual sensation is sensed to eliminate the turbidity.
