A jet discharge process for diesel engine exhaust comprises using: (a) an assembly injecting a nitric oxide reduction agent into a flow of effluent especially diesel engine exhaust gases, and/or for lean-burn four-stroke petrol engines; (b) a micro-mechanical jet nozzle in the injection assembly; (c) a liquid reduction agent heated to vapour and introduced through numerous fine nozzle openings, delivering controlled fine vapour jets by local, regular excess pressure; (d) piezo-electric local heating elements incorporating electrical heaters to generate the excess pressure; and (e) reduction agent introduced into the exhaust gases at a varying rate determined by a control unit dependent on motor speed, motor load, crankshaft position and exhaust gas temperature.
