A valve (1) is operated by a control piston (10) from a valve seat (9) moved by a drive unit (6) through a passage (11). The piston passes over an opening (18) incorporated within the passage inner wall. The opening is formed by the end of a standard drill hole (16) which is inclined to the control piston axis at less than 90 degrees. The openings are ellipsoid with their main axis parallel to that of the control piston, and a number of which are incorporated within the valve seat.
