The method uses a metal pin (40) fitted through a bore (30) in a component (10) of the metallised plastics housing and soldered or adhered in position. A raised lip (100,101) is formed around the bore on either side, before metallisation of the entire surface of the plastics housing, with subsequent removal of the metallisation from the top surface of each lip and insertion of the metal pin. The housing component may have a raised edge at the same height as the peripheral lip around the edge of the bore, with removal of the metallisation from the top surface of the raised edge at the same time as the removal of the metallisation from the lip.
