The apparatus includes an interface which is connected to a communications network. The interface inputs to an image processing unit which receives sound and visual images. The image processing unit has a memory which stores digital information. The image processing unit also has a timebase which is set using inputs from a TV receiver which is to be used for display of incoming calls. The TV screen is switched either slowly or rapidly to form a composite image of the incoming caller inset in the TV screen picture.
