The device has a least one feeder which supplies boards or cross members to the magazines (2,3) and moves transversely to the board longitudinal axis. A board grab (5) moves transversely also and picks up, lifts and carries a stack (9) of boards from the store (6,7) to the feeder's intermediate stacker. The feeder is moved to align the intermediate stacker with any of the individual receptacles (2a-2e,3a-3c) of the magazines. The intermediate stacker has an ejector which transfers the boards into the individual receptacle which may have guides (16,17) on the side facing intermediate stacker.
