PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester excellent in improving effect on coating properties of resinous or rubber like polymer, giving a coated film excellent in solvent resistance by condensation polymerizing a polyvalent carboxylic acid component and a polyvalent alcohol component. SOLUTION: This polyester is obtained by carrying out the condensation polymerization of (A) a polyvalent carboxylic acid component and (B) a polyvalent alcohol component, and the polyester has hydroxyl value of >=30mgKOH/g, the ratio of viscosityη25 /η80 >=45 at 25 deg.C and 80 deg.C, and weight average molecular weight of 1,000-500,000. The main component in the component A is a polymerized fatty acid and/or an ester of polymerized fatty acid, and the component B preferebly contains a polyvalent alcohol of tetravalent or more containing two or more carbon atoms, having two or more linear or branched Cn H2n OH groups ((n) is 0-5).
