Process for isotope ratio analysis of N2, esp. <15>N/<14>N comprises: (a) decomposing an inorganic gas sample in a gas chromatograph (1) into components; (b) oxidising and reducing the components in a combustion furnace (4); (c) opt. depositing of unwanted by-products; and (d) feeding the combustion products to an isotope mass spectrometer (11). The reaction matrix is nickel oxide used at more than 1000 deg C.
