<p>A process for the preparation of a cellulosic fibrous aggregate, comprising a softening stage, a dewatering stage and a curing stage, whereby in the softening stage a section of cellulosic fibrous material is exposed to the action of a liquid aqueous softening agent at elevated temperature and at a pressure of at least the equilibrium vapour pressure of the softening agent at the operating temperature, and whereby part of the heat required to raise the temperature of the starting material to the operating temperature of the softening stage, is obtained, by heat-exchange contact, from an aqueous stream, the initial temperature of which is substantially equal to the said operating temperature. <IMAGE></p> |
