PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain positive paper feeding and the accurate quantity of conveyance by providing a paper feed roller having a plurality of protrusions of specified height formed on the outer peripheral surface of a metal shaft of circular cross section by partially protruding the metal shaft itself. SOLUTION: In a paper feed roller 20, a plurality of protrusions 22 formed by partially protruding a metal shaft 21 itself are formed on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical metal shaft 21 made of steel and having circular cross section. A plurality of protrusions are formed in zigzag shape with specified spaces in the axial and circumferential directions of the metal shaft 21, and a plurality of areas 23 composed of a plurality of groups of protrusions 22 are formed with axial spaces in the axial direction of the metal shaft 21. When the height of the protrusions 22 is made 30-90μm, the moderate bite quantity into paper is obtained without flawing paper as well as OHP so as to obtain positive paper feeding and positive initial insertion setting of paper between a paper feed roller and a pressure contact roller 25.
