PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart durable hygroscopicity, shrink resistance and wrinkle resistance by polymerizing a monomer such as a vinylcarboxylic acid salt or a vinylsulfonic acid salt, and a specific monomer on a fiber, and subsequently treating the fiber for forming crosslinkage. SOLUTION: To a mixed liquid composed of at least one monomer selected from vinylcarboxylic acid salt such as sodium acrylate and vinylsulfonic acid salt such as sodium 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonate, and a monomer expressed by the formula [X is H or methyl; (n) is an integer of 1-23, preferably 5-23] at a weight ratio of (1:1) to (20:1), a polymerization initiator such as ammonium persulfate is added to obtain a treating liquid. The resultant treating liquid is imparted to a fiber material to polymerize the monomers on the surface of the fiber, and subsequently after formaldehyde gas and a catalyst are added to be absorbed on the fiber, the fiber is subjected to a heat treatment to form crosslinkage. |
