PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the inner volume of a main metal container in a range not exceeding the specified value of the main outer dimension to increase the capacity of a battery by forming a decorating layer by transcription on the outer circumference of the body part of a dry battery main body. SOLUTION: A decorating layer 13 showing a design, a product name, a manufacturer's name, warning items, etc., is formed on the outer circumference of the body part 4 of a metal container 3, and two belt-shaped decoration layers along the peripheral part are formed on top and bottom end surfaces of the metal container 3. A surface protecting layer made of transparent synthetic resin, for covering the decoration layer and the two belt-shaped decoration layers is formed on the outer surface of the body part 4 and a top end wall 5, of the metal container 3. These are formed by transcription on the metal container 3 at the same time. The surface protecting layer also serves as an insulating layer. Since the sum of the thicknesses of them is 10μm or less, the thickness of a part formed on the outer circumference of the body part of a dry battery main body is greatly decreased, and the outer shape of the metal container 3 is increased by a degree equivalent to the decreased part, and the capacity of the battery is increased.
