PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient car navigation system excellent in visibility by detecting the position of a vehicle accurately through simple processing and unit using a GPS data and the data of a gyro or a vehicle speed meter. SOLUTION: A GPS unit 10 detects the position of an automobile and a movement information data generating section 30 detects the vehicle speed and the moving direction. A candidate road data generating section 40 acquires a candidate of road under traveling with reference to a map data base 20 and detects the distance between each candidate road and the position of the vehicle. A position estimating section 60 determines the probability of traveling road for each candidate road by executing fuzzy inference based on a predetermined membership function and a fuzzy rule using the data of vehicle speed, moving direction and the distance to the candidate road, and information of past traveling road stored at a positional information preserving section 50. A road having highest probability is extracted as a traveling road and displayed visibly for a driver at a display section 70 along with the information of peripheral map. |
